Learner agency, flexibility and quality the focus at Te Ao Marama .
As a brand new PPP school, the team at Hamilton’s Te Ao Marama had the luxury of starting with a blank canvas when designing their learning spaces and choosing their furniture. Working closely with Woods Furniture to furnish all areas of the school, their decisions centred around learner agency, flexibility and quality. It apears to have paid off as teachers and students couldn’t be happier with the outcome. According to Principal, Tony Grey, the flexible design of the furniture enables the type of teaching and learning that they wanted.
“Our teachers love the learning spaces we have, in the layout of classes and the flexibility of the Woods Furniture. It allows them to shift areas around to create zones for the types of learning the want.”
What’s your favourite area? Students discuss their preferences, from the comfy furniture in the yoga and meditation room, to the more high-tech VR room.
The range and flexibility of furniture gives children choice, enabling them to work individually, in pairs or groups, enhancing their learning experience and making the most of the spaces available.
Tony discusses how learning styles have evolved over the years and the importance of supporting this with the right range of furniture.
